I can't believe it is May. It has snuck up on me really fast. I think that having such stormy weather kept me from realizing how close to May it was getting and how close to the end of the year. We had a great Cinco de Mayo! We had tons of food, fun music, and a treat-filled pinata to break. Thank you so much for your contributions. I also want to thank you for the beautiful flowers and gifts during Teacher Appreciation Week.
Just a little reminder that student's final State Reports are due Thursday, May 27th. They are to be in a folder with 1) Cover Page, 2) Outline (to be used as a table of contents), 3) the typed Report, and finally, 4) the Annotated Bibliography. The students have been working very hard and are doing a great job. I am in the process of checking their rough drafts so they can begin their final report. We will make a sign to display with their reports, maps, and symbols for our State Fair. If they want to include other items that represent their state, please feel free to do so. The State Fair will be on Friday, May 27th. It will begin in the activity room at 9 a.m. with the students singing a few songs they have been learning. The students will then go to their classrooms where their presentations will be. We are excited to have parents see what we have been doing.
Our CRT testing will be the week of Monday, May 9th thru Thursday, May 19th. Next Monday and Wednesday, the 9th and 11th, students will be taking the Language Arts part of the testing on the computers in the lab. This is the first year we have done it this way.The following Monday and Tuesday, the 16th and 17th, they will be taking the Science portion in the classroom using the regular paper and pencil method. On Wednesday and Thursday, the 18th and 19th, they will be tested on Math. Students are encouraged to get plenty of rest and eat a good dinner and breakfast each of those days so they can do the best work possible. They may also bring a healthy snack and juice to eat and drink on our break each of the testing days. A real favorite of testing is the chance to chew gum!! Students can bring and chew gum during the tests. Believe it or not, it has been shown that students can concentrate more and do better on testing if they are allowed to chew gum.
