During October we are studying the early explorers that discovered North America for Social Studies. Each student will choose an explorer he/she finds interesting to research and do a report. Each student will create a graphic prewrite on a computer using Inspiration that will be filled in with the information found during research. That outline will then be used to write a report as the explorer, i.e. "My name is Christopher Columbus. I was born in. . . I represented the country of . . . My greatest discovery was. . ." The report will be given orally in class. This assignment should all be completed in school, although occasionally a student may have to finish at home if he/she gets behind.
We are also starting a mystery unit in Language Arts. Each student has a leveled mystery novel to read, along with activities to do each day. Our writing this month is titled "Monster Playhouse". Each student creates the text that will then be displayed in a haunted house.
During Science, the students are rotating to Mrs. Larsen. They will be learning measurement and all about healthy bodies.
During Math, we are exploring number sense to include integers and perform operations with whole numbers, simple fractions, and decimals
