Lots of pranks were pulled on people yesterday on April Fool's Day, but luckily most weren't done in class. I am very much the prankster, but if I once get the students riled up, it is hard to calm them down, so I've decided it's best not to do too much in class.
I am looking forward to Spring Break this month as I'm sure most of you are. I'm staying home this year, but all my grandkids are coming so that will be lots of fun. I hope all of you wherever you go and whatever you do have an enjoyable time!

Language Arts
Reading: We are reading stories out of our basa
l readers that go hand in hand with our Western Unit; A Boy Called Slow, Pioneer Girl, Black Cowboys - Wild Horses, and Elena. These are very informative and life many years ago.
Writing: We have also spent a lot of time in the library doing research for our state reports. The students are doing a great job with them.
I will be checking their note cards and ma
king sure they have all the necessary information. Next week we are going to use Inspiration to put information into outline form. When fi
nished, the students can start on their rough drafts. I will check those and then they will begin on the final draft.
Social Studies
We are learning all about the Westward Movement - about the trails the explorers took, the hardships the people faced as they made their way west, the items they needed to take with them, and then the problems that arose with their new homesteads. Everyone made a bumper stickers for a wagon - some are quite uniques. Each student is writing a short report about someone or something having to do with the Westward movement. They have a list from which to choose. They should have ample time to finish these in class. In addition, they have a project which needs to be completed at home. There were two different lists handed out. Each student should choose one from their list. This should be complete before Spring Break. We will then begin our study of the Civil War. I will include a copy of both lists for you to view.
We are finishing up the end of fractions. I know some of the students are still struggling at times, but I will hold special sessions for them to help. They can also use other students who do understand - sometimes the way a student explains it helps them. Another possibility is help at home. I know several of you have been working with your child and it certainly gives them the little extra they need. Thank you. We will then be starting our geometry unit. This is a fun unit, but takes a lot of work and understanding on the student's part.
Science
Our class is going to Mrs. Taylor's room to study electricity. They get to do several exciting experiments. When this session is finished, we will begin our science review for CRT testing.
